Apart from my passion for my Boxer dogs I have another and that is for my home country of New Zealand. QUEENSTOWN - SOUTH ISLAND NEW ZEALAND Kia ora and welcome to New Zealand, a land small in size but rich in culture and beauty, a nation with a big heart and exceptionally strong spirit. It’s nature’s haven, an unspoiled paradise of sweeping beaches, native forests and bush, crystal clear rivers and lakes, mountains, glaciers and rolling farmland. Known as Aotearoa in the native Maori tongue, which translates to the “land of the long white cloud” New Zealand’s culture is as rich as its pastures are green. Maori myths and legends are intriguing and inspiring, the very birth of the nation being one of the more fascinating.
New Zealand is a land with plenty of elbow room; just over four million people live in an area the size of Colorado. Thus the country is still far from overwhelmed with human handiwork. One need not travel far to find a place unmarked by man's presence, New Zealand boasts some of the most concentrated and spectacular wilderness left intact in the world.
In fact it is possible to see the whole world in the landscapes of this remarkable country. Dramatic seashores, unchanged from the day they were first sighted by Polynesian and European voyagers, to marching mountains and volcanic plateaus of the central North Island, to the ancient Kauri forests, to the marvellous natural harbours of Auckland. To the South Island and the stark beauty of the Southern Alps, whose glaciers plunge into the tangled forests of the West Coast, to the canyons and rivers of Otago. And perhaps most beautiful of all, where the Southern Lakes give way to beech forests, a region of awesome fiords.
